The littlest triathletes jumped right into competition Saturday.
The annual Iron Kids Triathlon, sponsored by Durango Parks and Recreation, attracted some 60
youthful triathletes this year.
They competed in swimming, cycling and running with different course lengths for the
different age groups.
In ages 7-8, a long course and a short course were scored because one group of cyclists
turned around too soon on the bicycle section.
James Edmiston led the way for ages 5-6. He finished in a winning time of 10 minutes, 16
seconds.
Riley Amos was second and Saylor Stottlemyer finished third.
In the age 7-8 long course, Thomas Edmiston was the winner. Ozlo Mills was second. Emmett
Stottlemyer finished third.
For ages 7-8 in the short course, Gavin Mestas was the winner. Marit May was second. Jocelyn
Earl was third.
Solomon Barsun won the age 9-10 triathlon on Saturday. James Berndt wass second. Elli Earl
finished third.
For ages 11-12, Jesse Rubenstien finished first.
Kaylee Blevins was second. Heidi Barsun was third.
And in ages 13-14, Joni Smith was the winner.
The race was directed by Heidi Schaiberger of Durango Parks and Recreation.
