Recycling technology

Craig Knapp unloads a truck full of discarded electronics at the Durango Recycling Center during the city of Durango’s Computer and Electronics Recycling Event on Friday. The event continues from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the center, 710 Tech Center Drive. The cost for disposal ranges from $15 to $25 for televisions and monitors to $5 for CPUs, scanners and fax machines. Large office equipment will cost 25 cents per pound. Other miscellaneous items including keyboards, mice, power cords and cell phones will be collected free. The electronics will be shipped to Tulsa, Okla., where they will be disman tled and salvaged. Any non-salvageable parts will be recycled for their metals.
