A hair-razing event
March 15, 2008

Molly Macleod holds her hair while Barbara Acosta finishes up Friday evening during the St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraiser at Durango Fire & Rescue Authority Station No. 1. Macleod agreed to shave her head to raise money for St. Baldrick’s, which supplies funding for children’s cancer research, if bystanders would pledge at least $1,000. Macleod raised $3,500 in pledges. In total, the event, which later moved to the La Plata County Fairgrounds, brought in more than $20,000. At right is Macleod’s husband, Tom Walsh, a DFRA paramedic. Lindsey Fisher stands behind him.
